Recording the Observed Method
Karinela Dispatch operates under a defined editorial methodology that governs article selection, source evaluation, peer review, and publication decisions. This page documents that methodology in full.
Editorial Principles
Karinela Dispatch operates under the following editorial principles: articles are reviewed by at least one second editor before publication, sources are cited where appropriate, corrections are noted publicly, and writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter.
These four principles are not aspirational statements — they are operational requirements applied to every article published in the Karinela Dispatch record. Their application is documented in the internal editorial log maintained by the primary editor for each issue.
The publication was founded on the premise that fitness content in England has a credibility problem: too much of it is driven by commercial arrangements, product promotion, and outcome claims that do not withstand basic scrutiny. Karinela Dispatch was established as a documentary alternative. Its editorial standards are designed to produce content that can be evaluated against its sources, attributed to identifiable writers, and corrected in public view when errors occur.
From Proposal to Publication
Proposal Submission
Writers submit a proposal consisting of a working title, a 100–150 word summary of the proposed article, a note on relevant background, and any disclosure of commercial relationships. Proposals are reviewed by the primary editor within seven working days. Accepted proposals receive a brief that includes scope, source requirements, and target word count.
Research and Drafting
Writers research the article using published sources, field observation, and practitioner knowledge. Each factual claim requiring substantiation must be accompanied by a source note at the draft stage. The editorial brief specifies the expected level of source documentation — field-observation articles require a lower threshold than those making specific programming claims.
Editorial Review
Submitted drafts undergo review by at least one member of the editorial team who was not involved in drafting. The review evaluates factual accuracy, source adequacy, consistency with the publication's editorial register, and adherence to the publication's content standards. Reviewers return detailed feedback to the writer. A second review is conducted if substantial revisions are required.
Source Verification
Factual claims in the reviewed draft are cross-referenced against cited sources by the primary editor. Where a claim cannot be verified against the cited source, it is either amended with an accurate representation of the source, removed from the article, or held pending the writer's supply of an alternative source. The verification log is retained in the editorial record.
Publication and Archiving
Approved articles are published with the writer's name, publication date, and a disclosure note where applicable. The pre-publication draft is archived alongside the review record. If a correction is subsequently required, the correction is noted at the top of the published article with a brief explanation of what was changed and why.
How Sources Are Evaluated
Karinela Dispatch applies a tiered approach to source evaluation. The hierarchy below determines the weight given to a source in an article's substantiation chain. Higher-tier sources are required for specific programming claims; lower-tier sources are acceptable for general contextual statements and field observations.
- Peer-reviewed journal articles in exercise science, sports science, or physiology
- Published systematic reviews and meta-analyses
- Verified field data collected and documented by the article's author
- Textbooks in exercise science authored by credentialed practitioners
- Publicly available guidelines from established movement organisations
- Published case studies from qualified movement specialists
- Established fitness publications with editorial review processes
- Published coach manuals from recognised training organisations
- Verified practitioner experience disclosed in the article
- Brand-owned content or press materials
- Unverified forum posts or social media content
- Articles making unsubstantiated outcome claims
Correction and Amendment Policy
Karinela Dispatch acknowledges and corrects factual errors in published articles. Corrections are published in-line at the top of the affected article, with a clear statement of what the error was, what the correct information is, and the date on which the correction was made. The original text is not deleted — it is marked with a strikethrough to maintain a transparent record of what was published and when.
Readers who identify factual errors in published articles are encouraged to contact the editorial office directly with a note on the error and, where available, a supporting source. The editorial team reviews correction requests within five working days and notifies the reader of the outcome. Where a correction request is declined, the editorial team provides a written explanation of the reasoning.
Editorial opinion and perspective pieces are not subject to correction where the disagreement concerns interpretation rather than fact. Reader disagreements with editorial positions are addressed through the publication's correspondence section, not through the corrections procedure.
Commercial Disclosure Requirements
All contributors to Karinela Dispatch are required to disclose any commercial relationship — current or within the preceding twenty-four months — with brands, products, or organisations relevant to the subject matter of their article. This includes paid endorsements, sponsored partnerships, free product receipt, consultancy arrangements, and equity holdings.
Disclosures are published with the article in a clearly labelled disclosure note. Undisclosed commercial arrangements identified after publication result in the immediate addition of a disclosure note, and a review of the article's continued publication. The editorial team does not accept payments, free products, or other inducements in exchange for editorial coverage.
No current contributors to Karinela Dispatch hold undisclosed commercial arrangements with brands or organisations in the bodyweight training, outdoor fitness, or sports equipment sectors. The editorial team maintains a commercial relationship register updated at the start of each issue cycle.

Methodology Questions
Topics are selected by the primary editor on the basis of two criteria: relevance to the publication's coverage area (bodyweight training, outdoor fitness, and functional movement without specialist equipment) and the availability of adequate sourcing to meet the publication's editorial standards. Reader suggestions are reviewed monthly and contribute to the publication's forward schedule.
Writers are selected on the basis of demonstrable knowledge in their subject area — either through formal background in exercise science, movement research, or sports coaching, or through documented practical experience in the specific area they are writing about. Qualifications or relevant experience are noted in the author bio that accompanies each article.
Articles are reviewed for continued accuracy when new research materially changes the evidence base of a published claim. Substantive updates are noted at the top of the article with the review date. Articles that are no longer considered accurate and cannot be updated are archived with a note explaining why the content is no longer current rather than deleted from the record.
Correction requests and factual queries should be submitted via the contact form on the Contact page, selecting "Editorial enquiry" as the subject. Include the article title, the specific claim in question, and any source you believe contradicts the published text. The editorial team reviews all correction requests within five working days and provides a written response.
